How Microneedling Treatments Saved My Skin Before My Wedding

My engagement made me self-conscious about my skin and knowing my wedding was around the corner, and I couldn’t help it! I have always dreamed of a perfect marriage, and I want every detail, even the minute ones, to be in excellent shape. But as soon as I looked at my old photos and myself in the mirror, I knew something must be done about my skin.

Everywhere I looked, there were acne spots and scars smacked and dabbed all over my face. These skin blemishes result from accumulating acne and acne scars throughout the years. So before my wedding, they have to be gone, somehow. The thought of fixing these skin blemishes troubled me as much as preparing for the wedding itself.

Fixing these skin blemishes led me to multiple prescriptions and skincare treatments. I tried everything that an average human like me can think of: washing my face every day, trying out topical acne treatments, over-the-counter prescriptions, online remedies, and anything that I could get my hands on through a google search. While it did alleviate some of my skin blemishes like acne breakouts and discoloration, it didn’t help out at all on deep acne scars.

I was desperate, and my photos were always filled with an unideal me. For the sake of a perfect wedding, I want to get it right—even if it’s just a momentary skin solution. So a few months before my wedding, I finally contacted an aesthetician at Eastside Aesthetics. I knew that if something had to be done about skin blemishes, aestheticians should have an idea of what I should do.

Prices no longer mattered to me. If my wedding was gonna be expensive anyway, anything more wouldn’t hurt much now. I assumed that I would undergo some sort of a surgical procedure—not a really a big fan of those, but it’s desperate times, you see. My pockets were ready, and now I was consulting Lena, my practitioner, for my upcoming treatment.

Surprisingly, Lena said you don’t have to splurge to get the type of treatment I want for my acne scars. She noted that surgical procedures are no longer the norm. Cheap, non-invasive therapies are the go-to options in treating skin blemishes. As for my non-invasive treatment, Lena specifically recommended a microneedling treatment to treat my acne scars.

How Microneedling Saved My Wedding

For the uninitiated, this is how Lena described microneedling to me: microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that uses tiny needles to create small punctures into your skin, causing micro-injuries. But why pierce the skin to make it look more beautiful and fix acne scars? Wouldn’t make it worsen the skin? I remember asking these questions myself.

How Microneedling Works

As Lena described it, the piercing needles will undoubtedly damage your skin, but this is actually the point. The damage is so minor since the needles for the treatment are only 0.5mm – 1.5mm. You can still consider them as damage, but a more accurate terminology would be “micro-injuries.”

All these minor punctures in your skin force your skin to renew itself. The body always has the ability to rejuvenate the skin, but it doesn’t do so without reason. This ability only starts when the body notices wounds, so your aesthetician will have to create micro-injuries.

The body then starts the fibroblast activity, and this activity releases proteins needed for healing like collagen. Since there are only micro-injuries, not all of these proteins are utilized for fixing micro-injuries. A significant portion of them is used to reinforce your existing skin.

How Healing Proteins Fix Your Skin

One of the proteins released during fibroblast activity is collagen. Collagen can be found anywhere on your skin, and it is especially abundant if you are young. However, your collagen framework can be disrupted and dismantled by acne. When acne leaves, the dismantled collagen framework can’t fix itself.

By releasing collagen into your skin, the disrupted and dismantled skin framework is replaced by new collagen proteins, forming a new structure. Fixing the acne scars I desperately want out of my life.

What Was The Treatment Like?

Naturally, the idea of minute needles piercing your skin wasn’t that comfortable. On top of that, the procedure happens all over your face? What on earth would that look like?

However, Lena and her staff assured me that the procedure isn’t that complicated and that I’ll become obsessed with it in no time. Apparently, she and her entire team had this treatment several times. They could honestly say they were satisfied with the results, and they even showed me some before and after pictures of their own experiences. Lena then set an appointment for my upcoming microneedling appointment.

While I was confident with their word, I did my own research as well. The results of microneedling are as they said, and online blogs and reviews testified to these claims. Across the internet, people were recommending the treatment to each other, and here I am thinking, why didn’t I find this sooner?

My Microneedling Appointment

During my appointment, I was both nervous and excited. Then we got on with it.

Lena first applied some numbing creams and left them there for 20 to 30 minutes. Next, she started using a microneedling device, a pen-like device with needles on its tip. The experience was easier than I expected, and all I had was a tingling sensation. Sometimes, I do feel like getting poked, and that’s because Lena had to go deeper into places where I had plenty of scars.

The tingling and poking sensation were painless, thanks to the numbing creams. There may be a few discomforts here and there, but the benefits outweigh the discomforts.

Microneedling also enhances the effects of any skincare or topical treatments since they can go deeper into your skin thanks to the small punctures.

Takeaway

Soon enough, my skin complexion is noticeably brighter, and the pesky acne scars are gone for good. Now, I have the perfect facial skin complexion for my wedding! On top of that, thanks to significant improvements, I am even confident to go without makeup.

The only regret I have is why didn’t I try microneedling sooner, but you can still do something about it. If you have any acne scars concerns, contact Lena at her clinic, her services might be what you just need for your aesthetic goals.
